Davis-Smith Accounting Associates started life in 1981 as a sole proprietorship, Davis Tax & Investment Counseling. Mike Davis started the business armed with his bachelor's degree in accounting, an Apple /// computer, a homemade desk and a lot of confidence that people were ready and willing to let him become their accounting and tax professional.

At that time, the business operated in Mike's home in Houston, Delaware. After surviving the first few years, it was decided that a move to a more visible location was needed, so the Apple /// and the homemade desk were packed and moved to Mike's new home on the Route 14.

To enable clients to easily find him, Mike decided to paint the front door of the home a bright orange color. It worked. To this day, some clients still remind us about that orange door.

In 2005, Debi Smith became an owner and the firm changed its name to Davis-Smith Accounting Associates and moved all the way (about a hundred yards) from Mike's home, to his childhood home next door.

The Apple ///, the homemade desk and the orange door are all gone, but Davis-Smith Accounting Associates is still here providing services to clients, many who may still remember those things.
